Land mafia meddle lakes in Bangalore

No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Oct 25, 2011

With Bangalore expanding so vastly, it’s an inevitable hard truth that the city’s green surroundings are plundered. The major players who are cashing in on the increasing demand for land in Bangalore is today termed as land mafia. Due to this increasing demand, the land mafia is eyeing the big beautiful lakes that the city has been proudly housing for ages now. According to the recent reports of the “Task Force for Protection of Government Land”.

The builders and corrupt Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) authorities together form alliances where they dump material into the lake to level of the lake and slowly increase the extent to which the lake is covered. While the leveling up is done, the mafia starts to find property buyers through corrupt methods, furnish documents that prove that the land is under their property.

How the lakes are encroached?

The lakes are slowly converted into sewer tanks, slowly channeling all the wastes out of housing complexes like layouts, apartments etc. into the lake and thus rendering it toxic and slowly giving the housing authorities a reason to empty the lake and build apartments.

Environmental factors:

There are many young urban professionals in Bangalore who are buying apartments with natural living spaces. So, the lakes are being preserved but it’s not long before, the lakes will be replaced by huge crammed apartments with no natural light or air circulation. This gives way to many diseases, causing threat to residents lives in the long run. Congesting of lakes in the city also results in lower level of convection currents giving way to dry conditions resulting in breeding grounds for infections and diseases. Congesting of lakes also means lesser rain fall and high levels of pollutants in the air. It creates a toxic and unpleasant environment for our future generations.

Prevention factors:

We can do our part to ensure that the potential property that we are planning to buy is not obtained through illegal means and to ensure that our property does not get hounded by land mafia, one must ensure that:
  • All your documents are very clear, confirming your ownership of the property.
  • Pay taxes timely.
  • One set of all documents one should stay with personal Legal Advisor.
  • Access to the original documents must be owned only by the buyer.
  • Make sure that no photocopies of documents are being made in circulation.
  • The documents should never been mortgaged.
  • Make sure that encumbrance certificates are being procured periodically.
  • Personally visit to one’s property locations periodically and make sure everything is in order.
  • Make sure that no changes are being made on your property without your knowledge.
With all these precautions in place, your property would never be under the treat of land mafia.
