No enough land for accommodating Poor in Ahmedabad City Limits
It has been found that there no sufficient land for accommodating the poor in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation city limits. Even though the government promised to fulfill the needs of the urban poor population, now that it is spreading a new news of non-availability of land in the city. However soon later the government claimed so, the Environmental Planning and Technology University has done a recent survey spreading out fact that the government has done under-utilization of land and now claiming it in the other way to cheat the people.
It has been found that only 6.1% of the land is being utilized for Socially and Economically Weaker Section (SEWS). However AMC still has about 68.99 hectares of land which is not being used for SEWS housing. Nearly 30,000 housing units are yet to be constructed meanwhile those lands are either vacant or has already been illegally encroached upon in different ways.
