Chennai Bangalore Industrial Corridor plan may be ready by March 2015

As per Masanori Nakano, the Japanese Consul-General, the comprehensive integrated master plan for development of Chennai Bangalore Industrial Corridor (CBIC) will be ready by March next year. Speaking to the gathering on the silver jubilee celebrations of Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IJCCI) in Chennai, he said that the number of Japanese companies in India has quadrupled in recent times. Of these, 60 per cent pertained to manufacturing sector. He said that he sees this trend to continue to remain. He went on to add that the Japanese firms are also interested in developing infrastructure projects such as Delhi Mumbai Industrial Corridor and CBIC, among others. Increasing co-operation between the two countries is the main aim, he added.

Also speaking on the occasion, IJCCI past president, Venu Srinivasan, said that Tamil Nadu would be the greater beneficiary of Indo-Japan co-operation. The state has benefitted from the Japanese firms such as Nissan, Yamaha and Toshiba, which are likely to set up their units along the proposed Chennai Bangalore corridor. Toyota also has some investment plans for Hosur. IJCCI current president, N. Krishnaswami said that they would set up a knowledge bank on Japan to disseminate information about Japan.
