Construction of metro work to start in Ghaziabad
Construction on the Metro’s much-awaited Ghaziabad corridor is likely to start by December this year. Delhi Metro officials said tenders had already been called and several big companies had shown interest in constructing the line.
The tenders will be opened on September 30. The extension of the Rithala Dilshad Garden Line, the 9.6-kilometre corridor up to New Bus Adda in Ghaziabad will be built on an elevated track on the central verge of GT Road and will have eight stations. Instead of 36-42 months that Delhi Metro usually takes in constructing and making a corridor operational, the Ghaziabad line will be built in 24 months.
This is first time that they are building a Metro line on the central verge and the station blocks on both sides of the track. The station buildings will be connected with the track through steel bridges. This way, they will be able to take up the construction of the track as well as the station buildings simultaneously and cut down on construction time. The aforesaid as stated by a senior Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) official said.
