Construction of Mumbai’s Kherwadi flyover goes off schedule
As a result of an apparent delay, for at least a few weeks, in the south-bound carriageway of Mumbai’s Kherwadi flyover, the entire process involving the construction of the flyover has been thrown off schedule.
According to the earlier plan, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) – the Kherwadi flyover project’s executing authority – had hoped that, in the first phase of construction, the flyover’s south-bound side would be completed by May.
However, with delays hitting the south-bound carriageway of the flyover, the deadline has now been revised by the MMRDA. The main reason for the delay, as per the executing authority, is that some fault was detected in one of the piers.
Asserting that the Kherwadi flyover construction schedule has “got disturbed” because of the delayed south-bound carriageway, a senior official of the MMRDA said that the authority is now expecting to finish the first phase of construction by the second week of June.
Moreover, with delayed first phase also affecting the plans for the second phase, the official said that the MMRDA planned to start the piling work for the north-bound carriageway in the second phase in May. But that would not be possible because the MMRDA men and machinery are “tied up with phase one.”
The official also said: “We now hope to begin phase two in October and finish it in another 6-8 months.”
