Contaminated water sparks cholera fears
Water samples taken from east and north Delhi were found unsuitable for drinking, according to a recent survey conducted by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC).
Majority of the Delhi is facing water shortage and the little water supplied found to be unsuitable for drinking and sparks water prone disease fears. An independent study conducted by SDMC found that 60 per cent of the water samples are contaminated.
Nandini Kapoor, a resident of South Extension said that the water provided smells of sewage. Forget about drinking it, the water can’t even be used to wash the floor, added Nandini.
Ashok Bhasin, president of North Delhi RWA Federation, said there was no water scarcity in the past ten years. The water which came after two days of non-supply was full of dirt and was unfit for consumption.
Water samples tested by the civic bodies revealed that the water supplied is extremely contaminated and is not suitable for drinking even after boiling.
Recently the Delhi government claimed that the water supplied was safe and suitable for consumption.
