Development projects in East Delhi on hold after board scrapped
Municipal Corporation has cancelled all major projects sanctioned by the Trans-Yamuna Area Development Board last year. As a result, the development has come to a standstill in east Delhi. Aam Aadmi Party disbanded the board during its stint in government and directed the civic body not to award any new work.
A lot of projects like development of a lake in Jhil area to construction of community centres, schools, dispensaries have been cancelled. An official of East Corporation pointed out that projects, where the work has not started, have been cancelled.
The AAP government disbanded the board, which was the main source of funding for the corporation. Around Rs 80 crore used to be given to the corporation annually for various developmental projects. The party was keen on implementing Delhi Nagar Swaraj Bill, which allowed citizens to approve such projects.
Narendra Nath, former chairman of TYADB alleges that the AAP government has disturbed the system.
The LG office has been requested to release the third installment of Rs 35-40 crore
