Faster trains on Noida extension line planned by DMRC
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning to run trains at a higher average speed of 40-45 km per hour on the approved extension from Noida City Centre to Bodaki village. The line , which will run along the Noida-Greater Noida expressway, is slated to be completed by 2017, DMRC officials said.
An official said “If for instance there are six stations, then the first train will stop at stations 1, 3 and 5, while the next train will stop at stations 2, 4 and 6. Therefore we are planning to have the trains stop at every alternate station.”
An official said “From a security point of view, it is not possible, and nor is it needed, to run the trains any faster when your stations are hardly a kilometre apart.”
Trains on the Delhi Metro network currently run at an average speed of a little over 30 km/hour said the DMRC officials.
Trains on the extension line will be three coaches long, because the corridor is expected to invite less traffic initially said an official.
The official said “The stations have already been planned in a way that they lay at crossroads, so that they may cater to traffic from more than just one or two sectors. Once the areas around the Noida-Greater Noida expressway develop, we can hope for increased footfalls.”
The official said fewer stations would help them run the trains at a higher speed. In addition to the extension; DMRC is also planning to have only five stations on the 9-kilometre-long link connecting Sector-143 on the extension and Kalindi Bird Sanctuary station on Line 8 (Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden).
