Locked unmanned gates trouble commuters
Residents are facing inconvenience due to unmanned gates blocking access to colonies and commuters are forced to take diversion since the gates are locked during the night and often during the day.
Azhar Jamal, a resident, said that the unmanned gates do not have security personnel and a request has been sent to the Resident Welfare Association (RWA) to hire guards, but no action has been taken.
The RWA had installed gates in the colony to enhance security and prevent trespassing.
It is also known that the RWAs have unlawfully erected gates in most of the colonies even though the High Court has ordered that the gates to the residential colonies have to be open during the day and manned at night.
The municipality has imposed a law that every gate should be manned for the roads to be accessible in case of an emergency. Also an association cannot install any new gate without the permission from police and the corporation.
