Mumbai: Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro line likely to be extended to Wadala and Thane
An extension of the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro line in Mumbai is apparently on the cards. The mentioned Metro line will likely be extended to form a fourth route through its extension to Wadala and Thane.
As a result of the extension of the Metro line, Teen Haat Naka and Kasarwadavli will be the main Metro destinations in Thane.
According to an initial report, the total estimated cost involved in the extension of the Metro line will be approximately Rs 22,000 crore. With the 32-km route to have 29 stations, there are plans for a Metro-monorail synchronized at Wadala.
With regard to the likely extension of the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar Metro line, Maharashtra Chief minister Prithviraj Chavan said on Saturday that, within a month, a final feasibility report on the route will be received by the government, Chavan further added that Rites will likely submit the detailed report by August 15.
Chavan said that the implementation of the Thane route of the Metro will be taken up on the lines of Metro 3, which will be constructed a loan from the Japanese Bank for International Cooperation, rather than involving private developers.
Chavan, who was responding to a ‘call attention motion,’ admitted that the government made mistakes with Metro 1, when it decided to implement the project on the build-operate-transfer basis with private participation.Source – The Times of India
