No entry for children in RWAs maintained parks
Pragya, an 11-year-old girl has written two letters to resident welfare association president of Sheikh Sarai in order to open a park which has been kept shut.
At least 18 children have supported Pragya’s cause by signing the letter, but still the park remains shut.
She had also approached the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights, which replied on June 18.
The commission has sent a letter to the station house officer of Malviya Nagar police station. It had asked the officer to take action and submit a report.
Children from different parts of the city gathered to protest against RWAs not letting children to enter parks.
According to the Delhi Human Development Report, 2006 over 500 parks are maintained by RWAs in Delhi’s colonies.
RWAs do not have any authority to restrict permission to parks, however, many are preventing children from entering parks, forcing them to play on streets.
