Concerned over the deepening
water crisis and depleting
groundwater table, experts say that it may leave Noida almost dry in the next few years.
Builders and developers have been extracting groundwater from past few years, which may soon see people struggling for water, say experts.
The city has already been placed under the ‘semi-critical’ category by the Central Ground Water Board (CGWB).
The groundwater, fit for drinking, is drawn and and let out into the flowing Shahdara drain and other sewer lines. The water is overdrawn in order to dry the earth so that the building does not collapse due to a damp foundation.
In September 2010, The Environment Pollution Control Authority had directed the CGWB and the UP pollution control board to act against digress builders misusing ground water.
