Parallel bridge at Kalindi Kunj delayed by six months

1 Comment Sub Category:Delhi-NCR Posted On: Mar 03, 2014

A proposed six-lane bridge across Yamuna, parallel to the existing Okhla Barrage, will be offered to the Commuters travelling between Delhi, Noida and Faridabad. Just two bids have been received by Noida Authority for its tender, one of which has failed to comply with the parameters set. The Authority has pronounced to recall the tenders after the general elections.

The re-tendering procedure for the Rs 150 crore projects could be delayed by six months, as per the authority sources. For the project technical bids were to be finalized on February 3, while financial bids were to be decided a week later. Officials informed that the plan was to start the construction by March. The new bridge was likely to be ready in two years.

Officials had extended the tender date till February 10, because only two companies had shown interest. Officials said, the date was further extended till February 25, but again only two companies applied.

When the bids were opened, on Wednesday, one of the two companies failed to comply with the technical parameters. Sources said fresh tenders will now be floated only after the Lok Sabha elections.

Officials had received guidance from Central Water & Power Research Station (CWPRS), Pune, Yamuna Action Plan (YAP) and IIT-Delhi last year.

Kalindi Kunj Bridge is the only link between Noida and south Delhi at present. The narrow road, which caters to nearly 1.5 lakh vehicles daily, is no longer sufficient as per experts due to growing traffic on this route.

According to an agreement between Noida Authority and Noida Toll Bridge Company Limited, a proposal for the new parallel bridge was floated nearly two years ago, which built and runs DND Flyway -prohibited a competing facility for a period of 10 years.

The agreement expired in 2011 as the DND became operational in February 2001. This approved the Authority to take up the project on priority. In February 2011 the new bridge has been given green signal by The Noida Authority.
