Potholes surface on recently-repaired Dindoshi flyover in Mumbai
The south-bound carriageway of Dindoshi flyover has scarred within less than a month of re-opening after repairs. Several potholes have already started surfacing on the recently-repaired flyover.
The flyover was opened to public on May 29 after repairs, which were undertaken by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) from May 3. For the repairs, an amount of Rs 56 lakh had been spent by the MSRDC. The repair work on the flyover was taken up by the MSRDC after an IIT-B report revealed that damage was of a structural nature.
The potholes which have surfaced on the freshly-repaired Dindoshi flyover are seemingly a result of pre-monsoon showers in Mumbai, as well as an evident lack of bonding between the waterproof membrane and asphalt.
Interestingly, the officials of the MSRDC – including its managing director and vice-chairman Anil Diggikar – were apparently not aware of the fact that the flyover has scarred days after repairs were carried out on it.
With motorists slamming MSRDC for the substandard repair work on the flyover, an unnamed MSRDC source said in a June 18 statement: “The surface deteriorated as it rained soon after the asphalt was laid. We will carry out repairs tonight and hopefully the problem should not recur.”
