Power cut hits millions
Due to the collapse of an electricity grid, around eight states in North India had a major power blackout on Monday.
It took more than half a day for the authorities to fully restore supply to Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chandigarh.
It is considered that, the power grid failure happened as a result of poor long-term planning and appalling lack of grid discipline.
Another reason attributed for the sudden collapse seems to be the perennial problem of overdrawing by one or more states.
The power outage affected millions of people, stranded train passengers and caused huge traffic jams in the nation’s capital.
