PPP model to be implemented for mass housing
Pune- The Public private partnership (PPP) model will be soon followed in the Pune city for mass housing. The model has been successfully implemented in states like Gujarat to encourage infrastructural growth and attract investors, domestic and foreign companies.
This model is worth to be followed in the construction of mass housing as it can ensure better results, more profit and involvement of government and protection of consumer and public interests. It is a proactive approach from both parties which require clearly defined parameters.
PPP model is an agreement between government and private sector regarding the provision of public services or infrastructure. For instance, the model has been successfully implemented in Kharadi. It is one of the fastest growing localities near Pune which has a very good road network connectivity. It is believed that huge projects can give best results with this model.
Few other cities include Hubli and Dharwad in Karnataka and Nagpur and Navi Mumbai in Maharashtra. The Delhi and Mumbai Airport and the famous Hyderabad metro rail project are also examples of how well the PPP model can work.
The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) favours implementation of this model in the Pune city. The corporation opines that this model will work very well in the city. The Pimpri Chinchwad New Township Development Authority (PCNTDA) has contributed a lot in the development of PCMC area. It is now one of the most preferred destinations for buying properties in Pune city.
The city has witnessed acquisition, development and zoning of thousand acres of land for residential and commercial purposes under the jurisdiction of the PCMC and PCNTDA. All residential zones in the city have been developed on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.
According to the Managing Director of Jones Lang LaSalle India, the successful implementation of this model for infrastructure delivery requires sufficient reinforcement of the city’s economic environment for private participation, adoption of standardised documentation and other processes for accelerating competitive investment flows, leveraging budgetary resources and multi-lateral loans.
