State of health is dwindling in Mumbai: report
According to a report prepared by Praja Foundation, the city’s state of health is in a bad shape. Along with physical infrastructure, the city’s social infrastructure too is precarious.
The report is based on a survey of 15,000 households across various wards in the city. It shows that sensitive diseases have almost doubled in the past four years. The incidence of dengue rose to the highest or an alarming 176 per cent during the past four years since 2008-09. Similarly, the incidence of malaria jumped 71 per cent during the period and diarrhoea 23 per cent.
The report exposes the negligence shown towards health issues, as data obtained through Right to Information (RTI) queries by the organization reveals that only 6.56 per cent of the total questions asked in the six Assembly sessions in 2010 were health related. The common people are bearing the brunt as an average of 11 per cent of annual income is spent on hospitals.
