Thane building project stalled, buyers feeling danger after paying 70 percent of total cost
More than 90 flat buyers in an under construction building at Vasant Lawns complex claims that they have been cheated by the builders as they deposited 70 percent of the total cost. They blamed that the Sheth Developers are delaying the possession of the flats. The buyers have formed an association to fight against developers.
They claimed that they have booked the flats in 2009 and they were promised by the developers for possession in 2011 but developers have not been able to complete the development work of the project till now. The development work has been stopped at the 15th floor of this 24 storey building.
Mr. Dhanashree Kelkar, one of the customers who had booked the flat in Vasant Lawns, says that they were promised for possession in September 2009 and the deposited 70 percent of the total payment but the development work is still not completed. Another buyer Mr. Rajendra Limaye, says that they has been paying interest as well as monthly rent as a tenant.
A source says that the developers have to pay Rs 2.85 crore as penalty and charges for securing plinth certificates. The builder developed the building till 15 floors without taking compulsory plinth certificate. As they paid the fine, they got the permission to develop the building further.
Mr. Mangesh Chavan, a complainant, says that while trying to play the blame game of financial crisis and infighting, the developers has asked them to give the additional cost of Rs 1,700 more per square feet. They have booked at Rs 4,500 and now they are asked to pay more than the booking cost.
The flats buyers have decided to contact the state consumer redressal forum and chose other options like taking legal help.
Mr. Sharad Doshi, spokesperson from Sheth Developers, says that the government made a chain of different rules which forced the modification in the design. The TMC has charge them a fine of Rs 2.85 crore for not taking plinth certificate on time.
