Underpass on Ring Road demanded by residents of HBR Layout
Crossing the Ring Road is a nightmare for pedestrians because of heavy vehicular movement throughout the day, as per the residents.
Somashekhar, secretary of the HBR Layout 5th Block Welfare Association said, to cross the ring road one needs at least 20 minutes. In and around the locality there are numerous schools, temples and markets. To find a solution to this problem, construction of an underpass would be a good option.
He added that the stretch of ring road from Hebbal to the KR Puram Bridge, divide the 4th and 5th Blocks of their locality, but no road connectivity is there between the blocks.
Over 10,000 vehicles ply on the Ring Road during peak hours, as per Banaswadi traffic police.
The Ring Road was constructed 10 years ago and since then many accidents have occurred, said another resident Richard V S.
Richard added lack of patience among public while crossing and heavy traffic density are the reasons responsible for the accidents. The speed and density of vehicles have increased drastically after the construction of the Nagawara flyover and Hennur Main Road underpass.
A memorandum has been submitted to Sarvajnanangar MLA, K J George, who is also the Home Minister, and T Sham Bhatt, Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) Commissioner requested them to address the traffic woes by the HBR Layout 5th Block Social and Cultural Association members.
Bhatt mentioned in an interview that he will be taking a decision on underpass project after discussing with his subordinates.
