40 percent of 2013-14 budget used- MMRDA to answer
Mumbai is on a roll and with many big-ticket transport infrastructure projects almost complete, the landscape and skyline of the city is yet to change once again. There are in the pipe-line, many new infrastructural and road transportation projects to come up, which would speed up the movement and mobility of the city, however, the budget allotted for 2013-14, only 40 percent of it was used!!
As 60 percent of the projects financial allotment is left unused, with many new projects failing to move an inch, the esteemed MMRDA (Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority)now has answers to give on why 40 percent only. It is said that MMRDA could have around 39.5 percent of the total funding used, and because of the turtle speed and roadblocks most projects hit last year, the MMRDA brought down it’s budget and stalled many projects too.
Metropolitan commissioner, U P S Madan from MMRDA opines that there were two or three brand new projects, such as the much talked about “COLABA-BANDRA- SEEPZ METRO”, which should have started being constructed last year but didn’t happen. Moreover, the MUTP (Mumbai Urban Transport Project) too had a role to play in the rail component, but the funds weren’t released.
