47 Development Projects in Coimbatore Receive Notice from LPA

The local planning authority (LPA) in Coimbatore conducted a detailed inspection of development projects in the city, the reports of which revealed that 47 out of the 67 projects have deviated from their approved plans.

Notices to be sent:

  • The 47 development projects in Coimbatore which have been inspected by the Local Planning Authority will be receiving a show cause notice within a week’s time for having deviated from the approved plans originally submitted.
  • An LPA official stated that the buildings are likely to be sealed in the near future provided they submit a revised design within 15 days. Most of these group buildings are gated communities having more than one block.
  • 13 multi-storied buildings last week received a similar show-cause notice that had been inspected by the LPA. Two of the owners have agreed on demolishing the unapproved portions while the remaining have sent in revised designs awaiting approval.
  • 11 residential buildings and 2 hospitals received notices sent by the LPA last week. The hospitals were reported to have built store rooms in place of parking areas which have now been demolished and a fresh revised plan submitted.

The Buildings identified:

Out of the 47 group development projects which are scheduled to receive a notice, 34 are residential complexes while the remaining are educational institutions and include one commercial complex.

The gated communities include Nanjundapuram, Trichy Road, Uppilipalayam, Sai Baba Colony, Ramanathapuram, Vilankurichi, Avinashi Road etc.

The educational institutions are located in areas of Athipalayam, Myleripalayam, Somayampalayam, Thirumalayampalayam, Kondayampalayam and Karumbapalayam.

On 28th of June, a building under construction at Moulivakkam in Chennai collapsed causing the death of 61 workers. Inspection authorities have become more vigilant following the incident.

An official of the LPA stated that the violations identified are mainly in the infrastructure and amenities areas.

Building owners who have responded to their notices and send in their revised plans will have their documents dispatched to Chennai for approval, said an official of the Local Planning Authority. The Penalty for the violations is yet to be decided and will be done by the higher authorities in Chennai. The official also added that further notices will be handed out to all unapproved buildings which will be surveyed and identified in the coming weeks.
