BBMP will soon launch an awareness program on dogs

No Comments Sub Category:Awareness,Municipality Posted On: Nov 23, 2010

A day after 20 dogs, including two pets, were poisoned to death, BBMP plans awareness programme on dogs. The residents of Jakkasandra, Venkatapura and HSR Layout said stray and pet dogs were poisoned to death by feeding them kababs laced with poison early Sunday morning. Madiwala police suspect hands of some residents behind the act.

Police felt residents were irked by incessant barkings at night or feared getting bitten while returning from office during wee hours. Residents have lodged a complaint with Madiwala police and sought a probe.  Even while police are trying to find the miscreants, the Federation of Indian Animal Protection Organisations (FIAPO) has offered up to Rs 20,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for poisoning the strays. Anyone with information can contact Gopi Shankar (CUPA) at 9731182970.

BBMP joint director (animal husbandry) Parvez Ahmed Piran said the BBMP will soon launch an awareness programme on dogs. Through the campaign, BBMP plans awareness programme on dogs that includes educating people or residents on why dogs bark or bite, their behavioural patterns, how should they be treated and interacted with etc.

First, the programme will be launched in corporation schools and later in private schools. School children can spread the word among their parents, friends and relatives.
