Pollution in Chennai alarming!
The pollution level in Chennai is increasing and alarming the city! The recent environment studies has shown drastic increase in suspended particulate matter (SPM) levels.
The increase in SPM has exceeded the national standards set by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The Urban Emissions experts say that Chennai city is having 60 microgram per cubic meter of SPM exceeding the WHO standard, 20 microgram per cubic meter.
The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board expert say that improving public transportation will gradually help the reduction of SPM level in the air.
However, installations of monitoring equipment has been planned at 10 traffic intersections. Controlling the exceeded pollution level is the need of an hour in Chennai city.
