Majority opposes power hike plan by MSEDCL

The MSEDCL has proposed an average 15% increase in electricity charges for domestic consumers.Strong objection were raised by various organization against the proposed tariff hike by the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited.


The complaints demanded the MSEDCL to focus more on recovering dues, reducing power losses and improving efficiency, and follow standard operating procedures.
Ashiwini Chintis of Prayas Energy Group has pointed out the recent tariff orders lacked critical details.
The demand of power has been increasing by 10% per year without capacity addition. The majority of those who attended the meeting were seemed to  lack  faith in the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC).   
No appropriate step is being taken to recover the power dues of Rs 14, 266 crore , said Vivek Velankar of Sajag Nagrik Manch ,who submitted a petition signed by 7,000 citizens opposing the tariff hike.
