Bangalore Metro will cause more trees to go, this time from a stretch of Ambedkar Veedhi. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has begun to cut trees to make way for the underground station, between the High court and Vidhana Soudha. Shrubs and trees on the high court side too have been cut, but did not have precise numbers.
“We have taken permission from the horticulture department of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to cut down trees in the centre of the road for constructing the station and laying tracks. Some trees on either side of the road will make way for diversions,” said BLY Chavan, chief spokesman of BMRCL. Shrubs and trees on the high court side too have been cut, but the spokesman did not have precise numbers.
Metro officials, however, are keen to point out that the entire stretch would be reconstructed once the work is completed, and that the horticulture department would be consulted for the restoration of green cover.
