Directors of 22 units operating in prohibited zone to appear in HC
Despite closure order issued by the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) prohibiting operations in areas around Tippagondanahalli (T.G. Halli) reservoir, 22 companies continued to operate in the catchment areas.
A suo motu case was initiated by the Karnataka high court on the units which continued to operate. A Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Vikramjit Sen and Justice B.V. Nagarathna issued the directions while hearing the case.
In the earlier hearing, the Bench had asked all the units to file affidavit stating that they would shift from the area before July, 2013. But after viewing the affidavits filed by “authorised signatories” whose names were not mentioned in it, the Bench summoned the directors of these companies.
The court directed the directors of all the 22 companies to appear in person in court on November 22. It criticised the KSPCB officials for their careless approach with regard to ensuring these polluting units were closed down.
