Disaster management lanes in New Delhi

No Comments Sub Category:Civic Issues,Delhi-NCR Posted On: Nov 27, 2012

disasater management lanesNew Delhi- The city will now see different lanes for about 160 roads as the ‘ Disaster Management Lanes‘ by the end of this year. A person driving on these lanes at the time of disaster will be punished.

The lanes will be designed with  3.5-meters and will be painted blue in colour on the extreme right side of the road. Apart from the times of disaster, the lanes will be open for commuting.

In case of a disaster, a siren will be blown to alert the people. The lanes should be cleared with the sirens to give way for ambulances, PCR vans, fire tenders and so on.

This step was initiated by the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) as part of Delhi Emergency Management Exercise. It has also been approved by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit. A detailed report was also sent to the transport department concerning the provisions and the details of the penalties to be decided for the  violators.
