Goa deputy CM says yes to property tax
Chandigarh- Despite strong demand of imposing house Tax in Chandigarh, Municipal Corporation is not doing so. But recently Goa deputy CM and minister for urban development Francis D’souza spoke in favor of imposing house tax.
During the seminar, “India Urban Development Vision 2020″, organised by the municipal corporation he added that this will help the civic body to generate its own resources independently rather depending on central grants.
While comparing Chandigarh and Goa in terms of growing traffic he said that rural areas need to be developed in terms of infrastructure as to bring down the number of people migrating to the city areas.
He says the schemes introduced for below poverty line (BPL) will not suit for cities like Chandigarh and Goa as they have better infrastructure. However, the scheme can be successful in states like Bihar,UP, Maharashtra and Rajasthan as the people living in have poor infrastructure.
He added that every state has its own infrastructure requirements which should be kept in mind when schemes are planned rather planning standard schemes all over the country.
