Potable water cannot be wasted for cleaning the sewers

1 Comment Sub Category:Municipality Posted On: Apr 12, 2011

In a circular issued on Monday, BWSSB chairman PB Ramamurthy directed officials to use treated water to clear sewerage lines. This initiative has been launched at Cubbon Park and Lalbagh water treatment plants of BWSSB.  BWSSB chairman directed officials to use recycled water to clear sewerage lines.

BWSSB Bangalore banned the use of clean potable water in jetting machines to clear blocked sewer lines. With this, BWSSB hopes to save 7,68,000 litres of drinking water every day through one jetting machine that makes four trips a day.

The BWSSB has four tertiary treatment plants at Vrishabhavathi Valley, Yelahanka, Cubbon Park and Lalbagh. This initiative has been launched at Cubbon Park and Lalbagh water treatment plants of BWSSB.

“It is to be understood that potable water cannot be wasted for cleaning the sewers. BWSSB should take a lead role in conservation of water. One such initiative shall be usage of treated tertiary water in the jetting machines instead of potable water,” said the BWSSB circular.
