Few months left to execute developmental projects in Kozhikode
Kozhikode- The Corporation authorities of the Kozhikode have only 105 days left to execute the developmental projects.
This implies that in order to avoid assumed fund lapse of Rs 77 crore, these projects must be implemented before the end of 2012-2013 financial year.
This arduous task will only initiate after getting approval from the district plan committee. The corporation has assumed around 1,500 projects for various sectors out of which 1200 will drawn up in the current financial year. The fund is contributed in various sectors as follows:
Sector | Percent of fund contributed |
Infrastructure | 43% |
Service | 52% |
Production | 5% |
In 2009-2010 financial year, the civic body utilised 54 percent of the planning fund while it was 64 percent in 2010-2011 financial year. It is assumed that any delay in implementation of developmental projects in kozhikode will lead fund lapse of Rs 19 crore in road construction, Rs 98 lakh in road renovation and also a big amount in maintenance of buildings.
Due to shortage of officials for the implementation of projects, a proposal of Rs 2.1 crore was rejected by district medical officer. It may also result in rejection of Rs 9 crore marked for development of scheduled caste.
Council party leader and Public works standing committee chairman, M Mohanan explained that in order to avoid fund lapse, many projects have been converted into two-year schemes to utilise the fund in various sectors. Mayor A K Premajam announced to prepare a project implementation calendar in this case.
