Subramanyapura LakeThe Subramanyapura lake in Uttarahalli, which was left unnoticed for nearly five years, will now get a new life and the recovery work will be done by Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) in association with other civic agencies and government bodies.

Higher official of BBMP visited that lake and found that the lake was illegally dumped by debris and garbage which also reducing its extent from 18.2 acre to 11.3 acre. Environment Support Group (ESG) had approached the High Court. The Karnataka High Court directed the BBMP on December 13, 2012 to submit a detailed report. However the debris from the lake was still not removed.

A special squad will be there to check  the illegal dumping of construction material, debris and garbage in the Subramanyapura Lake at Uttarahalli in Bangalore South. All the sewage from nearby apartmentsweeds, garbage and encroachment have pushed the lake to the verge of extinction. BBMP and Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) engineers were instructed by BBMP commissioner to set a special force to protect the lake and its major storm water drain (SWD) from debris and garbage mafia.

As the lake is in the custody of BDA, BDA had to remove debris in the next 10 days. The officials have to clear the encroachment, and relocate the slum-dwellers elsewhere, construction residential quarters for the urban poor and fence the lake after identifying its boundary.

BBMP officials will soon issue orders to penalise the apartment owners for letting the sewage into the lake. Officials asked the civic body to lay a sewage pipeline for the apartment dwellers and the cost will be bared by the apartment owners.
