Government departments targeted for tax defaulting
New Delhi- The drum beating technique which was carried out in front of tax defaulters’ houses have not been that effective.
Due to the non-payment of property taxes by the government and semi-government departments, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) will attach the bank accounts of all these offices to the civic body.
As per the city mayor, stringent actions should be taken against the tax defaulters of the central, the Delhi government for not paying property tax.
The major defaulters like the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) owe a whopping sum of Rs. 746 crore and Rs 84.22 crore tax respectively to the civic bodies.
The mayor also stated that the Central, Delhi government and semi-government departments owe a huge sum of money as tax which they are still hesitant to give.
Further, she also said that the corporation is thinking of ways to squeeze out the property tax from all sorts of properties irrespective of whether they are owned by the government or private authorities.
The drum beating technique was however carried out in order to create a psychological fear among the tax defaulters.
