beridgeNew-Delhi- The Northeast Delhi flyover at Khajuri Khas which is also a part of the eastern approaches of the Wazirabad Signature Bridge project is expected to be completed by March.

The flyover which stretches till Wazirabad will help in free movement on the intersection. Areas like Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar and Sahidabad which are quite congested towards Wazirabad will be free of traffic consequently.

However, the deadline to complete the flyover was in November last year. The eastern approaches which is been constructed near Bhajanpura has a 1.8-km-long embankment connecting  to the main bridge consisting of the Marginal Bund Road at Khajuri Khas intersection.

Last year, the flyover was open to public and was used to connect to Mukarba Chowk with ISBT. Despite the deadlines being set, sources state that the project will be completed only during September.

The project construction has been started with the foundation work on the main bridge connecting the east and west side. As mentioned earlier the project has missed several deadlines and has been under-construction for many years.

As per an official from Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation Limited (DTTDC), there has been seldom work done in the site for more than two years and that they are awaiting the clearance from the forest department to clear the forest. Due to the delay in clearance, the work also has been delayed.

The Delhi Government announced the project in 2004  at a cost of Rs. 1,131 crore. This project was initiated with a plan to make this bridge a signature bridge with the surrounding areas as tourist spots. Apparently, the project is divided into two sectors, the approaches and the main bridge wherein the work on the approaches was started in 2008.

The structure of the proposed bridge would be bow-shaped with a cable stay structure. The bridge measures about 600 metres and will be constructed across Yamuna. The bridge deck will be supported by the cables which will be further connected to central pylon from China.
