DDA flats of various housing schemes lying vacant
New Delhi- While many buyers are struggling to find affordable houses to buy in Delhi, there are over 500 DDA flats lying vacant.
The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has several flats which are lying vacant as they were either surrendered or cancelled under various housing schemes. Among the vacant flats, many are higher income group (HIG) flats, from the 2010 DDA scheme, and are located in important locations such as Vasant Kunj and Dwarka. DDA has planned to allot these flats in its upcoming housing schemes.
The land agency has prepared a list of vacant flats according to which there are three HIG flats vacant in Mukherjee Nagar, six in Vasant Kunj, seven in Rohini, 12 in Jasola and 19 in Dwarka. DDA’s Vasant Kunj housing complex has 10 more vacant flats, including four lower income group (LIG) flats.
According to a DDA official, many flats under various housing schemes have been cancelled or surrendered. There are LIG or Janata flats vacant in areas like Narela, Jasola, Rohini, etc and middle income flats vacant in Jahangirpur. These flats were recently allotted under the 2010 scheme and they include flats of earlier housing schemes too.
The allotment of such flats were cancelled in cases where in the allottees must not have come forward to make payment or they may have surrendered the allotment on their own, said the official.
Besides non-payment, flat allotments had been also cancelled due to incomplete formalities. And when next housing schemes are announced, these vacant flats will also be included under those schemes.
The condition of many vacant flats of the 2010 housing scheme is pathetic. Doors and windows of flats of earlier schemes are found missing, claim sources.
The land agency has not come up with any new housing schemes after the 2010 scheme. Officials said that some of they are expecting completion of few projects in Delhi by March 2013 following which they will be announcing new scheme.
Nearly 3,000 housing units are expected to be ready in areas like Narela, Dwarka and Rohini by March of which most of them are meant for the economically weaker sections. Housing projects are going on in other parts of the city and they will be included under the new housing scheme.
Some of the housing projects will be meant for those who were forced to relocate due to infrastructure projects taken up by government agencies.
A survey on the vacant plots has been taken up by the land agency in order to build new commercial and residential properties based on the usage of these plots.
