Pune metro project gets Rs 10 crore budget
Pune metro rail project has finally got a budget of Rs 10 crore in the Union Budget which was announced recently. The long delayed project had proposals from Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal corporations in association with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
Pune metro, for the first time has got listed in this year’s list of projects of the urban development department. The total funding of Rs 10.01 crore has been bifurcated into three components.
The major share is of Rs 9.99 crore for the investment in the metro itself. Second and third components, each of Rs 1 lakh have been taken for provision for reimbursement of central taxes, and pass through assistance (PTA).
Similar kind of mention and budgetary division has been done for other projects like Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation, Chennai Metro Rail Limited, Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation, Mumbai Metro, Jaipur Metro, Kochi Metro and the Ahmedabad Metro.
Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) had been earlier asked by the state government to speed up the metro project work. Earlier, Union government had asked the civic body to expedite the work.
Two elevated corridors have been planned as part of the Pune Metro rail project – Pimpri to Swargate (16.59 km) and Vanaz to Ramwadi (14.92 km).
The civic body has been asked by the state govt to register the special purpose vehicle (SPV) with immediate effect and submit the proposal of route-one from Pimpri-Chinchwad to Swargate for government’s approval.
A committee had been set recently which reviewed the process for implementation of the project initiated by the civic body. With the set up of this project, the residential properties for the poor and infrastructure in the vicinity will get a better boost.
The proposal of the Metro route had been asked to be submitted at the earliest for the approval of the state cabinet. After the state govt approves, it will be forwarded to the central government.
The civic body had also been directed to speed up the work adding that PMC has been asked to appoint the officer of special duty for the project with immediate effect.
