PMC to include norms for setting up mobile towers in DC rules

Illegal mobile towersPune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has plans of including the norms for setting up mobile towers in the city. This has been planned witnessing many mobile towers coming up in the city.

This initiative will be a part of development control (DC) rules which will be included in the revised Development Plan (DP) for old areas of the city.

As per a civic body official, this decision was taken viewing many cases of health problem were raised recently. There was a need to have common norms and will be included in the DC rules.

The norms and regulations for setting up these mobile towers will be in line with the policies that have been made by the central and state governments.

Currently, as per the DC rules, validity for new and existing proposals of towers shall not exceed three years. The proposals that have been made should be submitted along with a structural stability report from an approved structural designer.

This report should contain details about the building whether it can bear the load of the tower, in case of new proposals. Also, it should contain the specifications about the centre of gravity and design of the base of the tower.

Furthermore, the proposal should also be accompanied by a stamp paper agreement of a default amount signed by the owner of the building or the housing society where the tower is proposed.

The location of the cell phone tower should be selected in such a way ensuring there is no danger caused to the humankind in the radius of at least 1.5 times the height of the tower.

Also, lighting guard system and enough red lamps should be installed around the tower to warn danger in advance.

After the submission of the documents, the permission will be given by the authorities.

Documents needed:

*Structural stability certificate
*NoC from the owner or housing society
*Copy of approved building plan
*NoC from all residents of the apartments in the building
*NoCs of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB), if required

Apparently, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also plans of eradicating the illegal mobile towers in Pune city. In the action, many housing societies are also going to face the heat because of the same.

As per the civic body, around 1830 mobile towers out of 3705 towers in the city are illegal. Out of these, many have come up after 2010. Apart from the civic authorities and police officials, housing society members will also be held responsible for erecting the illegal towers and they would also be punished accordingly.

This move by the civic body has gone well with many activists and residents. One of the activists has commented that the government should set a deadline in order to bring down such towers.
