The Odhisha government is worried about land mafia and influential people grabbing vast stretches of government land in prime locations in the Bhubaneshwar. City management group (CMG), consisting of consisting of officers of different government agencies and police, recently met to express concerns over encroachments. Injeti Srinivas, development commissioner asked National Informatics Centre (NIC) to develop software with GPS-tagged photography system to locate encroachments. There is no data, at present, with the state government to determine encroachment on the land belonging to general administration department, Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and Odisha State Housing Board.

BDA and housing board have been asked by the government to prevent encroachment on ‘leftover’ spaces near their housing schemes. The development commissioner asked BDA and water resources department to remove encroachments on natural drainage channels in the city. Almost all the 10 natural water channels are being encroached.
