Secunderabad to go for Hybrid LED Streetlights

1 Comment Sub Category:Municipality Posted On: Jul 19, 2011

The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) has decided to install solar-wind hybrid LED streetlights in its jurisdiction.  Hybrid LED streetlights in SCB cantonment area would reduce electricity bills in the cantonment area.

For the first time in the country, the SCB has decided to use this technology. A US-based firm has come forward to install 10 to 15 LED streetlights free of cost on pilot project basis,” SCB CEO S Balakrishna said.

The LED streetlights would be installed on the Rajiv Rahadari stretch between Patny and Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) within a week. “If it turns out to be economical, then we will go for tenders on built, operate and transfer (BOT) basis,” the CEO added.

In the present system, the SCB is running up a bill of Rs three crore per month. “It has become a major burden for us,” he said. A proposal to install these would be tabled at the board meeting on July 20.
