CAG report alleges Sheila Dikshit’s govt did nothing for illegal colonies in Delhi
In a report tabled in Parliament and released on Friday, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has said that an amount of over Rs 3,000 crore was spent by the Sheila Dikshit-led Congress government to regularize illegal colonies in Delhi, but even the most basic of facilities were not provided to the residents of these colonies.
Against the backdrop of the claims made – prior to the assembly elections in December 2013 – by Dikshit’s government that the process of regularization of 895 illegal colonies had been completed, the recently-released CAG report has said that the government had only identified illegal colonies for the purpose of regularization and had merely issued a notification. It did not undertake any crucial processes for fixing boundaries and completion of layout plans.
The CAG report has asserted: “The urban development department released Rs 3,666.81 crore during 2007-13 for providing basic services in unauthorized colonies. Of this, Rs 3,029.21 crore was utilized.”
Meanwhile, along with alleging that the Sheila Dikshit government hardly did anything for illegal colonies, the CAG report said that the previous government also failed to work out a dedicated sewage master plan for the city.
The report also indicted the previous government of giving power discoms unwarranted benefits and incurring preventable financial irregularities, among other shortcomings.
