Bright Diwali awaits for Residents in Patna

No Comments Sub Category:Community,Municipality Posted On: Oct 19, 2011

Residents in Patna can hope for a resplendent Diwali this year as the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) is taking formidable steps so that every corner of the city receives power supply. The commissioner of the civic body , Mr. Pankaj K Pal has told that since both Diwali and Chhath Puja are important festivals in the state, they have taken ample measures to provide adequate power supply in the region. To accomplish this, in a meeting of PMC Standing Committee officials which was also attended by the Mayor, it was decided that concrete steps should be taken to restore the now defunct street lights. The condition of the street lights in the city is pathetic, in many places its just the lone electric pole without a bulb.

Six months ago the energy department had disconnected power supply to almost over ninety percent street and mast lights. This disconnection drive was initiated because of the non payment of arrears by civic body to the energy department. The move had rendered most parts of the city to reel under constant darkness.

To relieve the civic body of its encumbrances the state government has recently offered a sum of Rs 50 crore to the PMC. The Officials of PMC have said that to handle the crisis the civic body will install 7,200 CFL bulbs and ensure that there are temporary street lights are set up in areas near the ghats as the Puja is generally done near ghats.
