AAI plans to come up with model concession agreement for airport privatisation
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) plans to seek a new agreement for airport privatisation with the government soon, now that the new Civil Aviation Ministry has taken charge in New Delhi.
With some reservations by the previous government having stalled the concession agreement which the AAI had prepared in March this year, the AAI plans to work out a fresh model concession agreement before its starts inviting request for quotation (RFQs) from potential bidders.
Noting that the terms of the bidding process will be clearly laid down in the model concession agreement, an unidentified senior official of the AAI said that it is being hoped that the airport privatisation process will be expedited under the new government.
Pointing out that the AAI could not have received the RFQs from the potential bidders without the model concession agreement, the senior AAI official said that the RFQs had apparently been readied by potential bidders. The official also said that once the fresh agreement is duly approved by the new government, the AAI will start accepting the RFQs from prospective bidders.
The official asserted that the non-availability of model concession agreement was leading to postponement of the date for receiving RFQs.
The airport privatisation at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (SVP) International Airport in Ahmedabad has reportedly attracted the interest of nearly 15 bigwig companies including GMR, Essel Infra Projects, Adani Group, GVK, Essar, IRB, and Sadbhav Engineering, among others.
