ACB raids raise revenue collection in Maharashtra
The Maharashtra government has conceded that the recent raids conducted by state anti-corruption bureau (ACB) at the octroi check posts have resulted in a rise in revenue.
Octroi being the highest sources of revenue for the corporation, which adds approximately Rs 4,500 to its fund, is also a source of revenue theft as a large chunk of revenue is lost in theft at the six check posts around Mumbai.
The recent raids found forged receipts and confiscated 44 vehicles that were found to be indulging in octroi theft. It raised at least Rs 2 crore in the annual octroi collection of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
Taking it into consideration, the ministry has asked BMC to take necessary steps to ensure greater vigils at the check posts, including setting up of vigilance squads.
