Act to be passed against unauthorized constructions
In one of the petitions filed at the Madras high court, there was instant action taken against multi storey buildings which were constructed without any kind of mandatory safety measures. The buildings are located in the George Town area where fire accidents can be stopped. There was a notice ordered on Thursday by Chief Justice S K Agnihotri along with Justice M M Sundresh. This notice was based on the PIL filed by the social activist K R Ramaswamy.
Ramaswamy also mentioned recently in his petition that the fire incident occurred at Narayanappa Street because of illegal constructions. The buildings which were multi storey had been established but without following any of the rules belonging to the Town Planning Act of 1971. This was definitely a breach of act which didn’t allow the multi storey buildings to be constructed on congested lanes.
Ramaswamy has also mentioned that the Chennai Corporation as well as the CMDA authorities were actually not analysing the buildings located in George Town, Sowcarpet and Pursawalkam before the electricity and water supplies had been given. In order to prevent any further accidents in the future, directions will be taken from the member secretary of the CDMA.
