Activists speak up against plans laid by Pawar
Sharad Pawar who happens to be the Party Chief of Nationalist Congress has recently declared that he has come up with 26 sites in the state of Maharashtra that could be used for the purpose of world class tourism towns. Investments shall be made and employment opportunities shall be increased within the state. This statement has led several environmentalists and conservatives to speak up against it. This is because most of them do not stand in favour of the commercial development in the hilly areas or even lakes.
During an event organized by the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce on Tuesday, Mr. Pawar had mentioned that sites can only be constructed if political opposition is absent. He further mentions that there are over ten thousand people visiting Lavasa during the weekends and quite a lot of events take place there more often. Most of the sites which have been discovered are located near water bodies. Here one will not find much population.
On the other hand, Suniti Sura who happens to be an activist has mentioned that whenever there is a carrot dangling about development before all farmers and local residents, all one shall see after this is damage and destruction. Not just the farmer land but also the environment is destroyed.
