Affordable housing needs speedy clearance
Affordable housing has been an issue of concern for government and policymakers. There is a serious scarcity of homes for people who have an income of under Rs 10,000 per month or even less.
12th Plan working group on financing urban infrastructure estimates the housing shortage in the country at nearly 29 million units and the low cost housing for economically weaker section has been neglected for too long.
Affordable housing projects are slowly beginning to mushroom across the city suburbs. However, the delay in approvals stands as the biggest hurdle in way of boosting the segment. Realtors are wary of entering the segment as there is no single window clearance provision so far.
