After a 10-yr gap, BDA may allot 5,000 sites

After a waiting period of nearly a decade, the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) may have some good news for the AAM AADMI. The authority plans to invite applications for 5,000 sites in Kempegowda Layout from March this year.

In an announcement by Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah, “BDA has acquired 2,000 acres of land and started developing 5,000 sites and other amenities. We will initiate the process of inviting applications from March.”

Though BDA announced plans to develop layout in five new areas of Kempegowda, Shivaram Karanth, S Nijalingappa, KC Reddy and Devaraj Urs to allot 2 lakh sites but it did not form any new layout in the last 10 years.

The last developed layout by BDA was Arkavathy which received 2.7 lakh applications for 20,000 sites. The project, however, got mired in legal tangles after being challenged in various courts and the BDA managed to allot nearly 9,000 sites only but owing to the compensation issues, most of the beneficiaries are still to get their plots.

BDA decided to form Kempegowda Layout in 2007 and also issued a notification for the same. For the project, they were to acquire 4,043 acres and 27 guntas of land in villages in Bangalore North and South taluks but due to legal challenges, the agency has so far only managed to acquire only 2,000 acres.
