Agra district administration proposes construction of 3 parking lots in Taj vicinity
In an evident attempt to ease traffic gridlock caused because of lack of sufficient parking areas in the vicinity of the Taj Mahal, the Agra district administration is planning the construction of three parking lots in the Taj surrounding area.
A proposal for the three new parking lots in the Taj vicinity will be prepared by the Agra Development Authority (ADA).
The areas which have been earmarked for the construction of the three parking lots include Shilpagram, Hotel Trident T-junction, and at a vacant plot close to the East Gate of the Taj Mahal. As of now, there are only two parking areas situated on the East and West Gate of the Taj Mahal.
According to the Agra district administration officials, two of the three new proposed parking lots in the Taj vicinity will have basement parking with two levels. One of these parking lots will replace the existing parking at Shilpagram.
The lack of enough parking spaces near the Taj Mahal results in traffic congestions, especially during the peak tourist season from September to March. However, the construction of new parking lots will help ease the traffic snarls which are caused due to the parking of scores of taxis and buses on road-sides due to insufficient parking space.
