Agricultural crisis force Chikkaballapur farmers to sell lands to developers
Real estate developments in Chikkaballapur district in Karnataka has a different angle. Situated just 60 kms from Bangalore, the district has been witnessing a rapid growth in land sales and development.
In the district, agricultural fields are being converted into layouts and apartment complexes. Apartments and other buildings have come up on fertile agriculture land surrounding Nandi Hills.
The reason behind the the rapid construction is that drought, government apathy, lack of irrigation facilities have forced farmers to sell their fertile land.
The farmers suffered financial losses due to lack of rainfall, the depletion of the groundwater and fluctuating prices for crops and without being aided by the government, they have been forced to sell their land to urban developers.
