Ahmedabad to make use of 790 acres of unutilised land
Shortage of lands seems to cease being a problem for building affordable houses in Ahmedabad.
790 acres of land acquired under Urban Land (Ceiling and Regulation) Act(ULCRA) for developing houses for the urban poor and middle class in Ahmedabad had been lying unutilised for decades and now authorities are planning to come up with housing projects on those lands.
If utilised for housing purposes, the cost of housing can be regulated in the city. The land remains locked with the revenue department, as there has been no demand for housing projects. The state revenue department estimates that almost 60 per cent of ULCRA land can be made available for housing.
The urban development department (UDD) plans to provide housing for the poor in Ahmedabad, rehabilitating slum-dwellers by making quality houses for them.
