lineNew-Delhi- After a long six month wait, with the completion of the metro line repairs, the Airport metro has resumed services with a reduced speed but has increased the fares by about 50 percent.

With the increase in the train fare, a ticket from New Delhi Metro station to the airport will Rs.120, and Rs. 150 till Dwarka Sector 21. The fare between these two stations was increased from Rs. 20 to 30 Rs. These revised rates will be applicable from January 23, 2013.

Earlier, the 22.7-km corridor was closed due to the structural defects followed by the suspension of the services like the repairing  work on girders, bearings and rail fastening clips.

According to a city spokesperson, the present fares on the airport line are as per the concessionaire agreement of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and it cannot be deviated. However, most of the fares remained the same as the monthly 60/45 journey pass had the same fee.

Other fares were reduced with the introduction of the new products like journey token and Sunday/holiday token. A cspokesperson stated that they are trying to attract more number of passengers and will further design a balanced fare structure to attract more passengers.

The operations have resumed peacefully but with a reduced speed of 50 km/ph and an increase in travel time to 34 minutes when compared to earlier time of just 18 minutes. The halting time at every station is 30 seconds. Most passengers feel that the halt of the Airport metro disrupted their schedules and that they are quite pleased to see the train back on track.
